Wichita PC Solutions has unveiled a fully equipped desktop computer priced at $299, breaking a psychological barrier by creating a PC price in line with that of television sets, stereos and other basic consumer electronics.
Included with the $299 machine is a 15 inch flat screen monitor, an internet keyboard, and a laser scroll mouse. The computer is equipped with Windows Vista Basic and security software.
The low-cost PC, called the Alpha, runs on an AMD Sempron 3200+ processor.
The $299 Alpha includes an 80 gigabyte hard drive, 1024Mb RAM, a CD burner, DVD player, onboard LAN, sound and video components. It carries a warranty and is upgradeable.
Wichita PC Solutions has a history of custom building computer systems that retail for 20% to 60% less than comparable brands at the big box stores.
